Review:
1. Your enjoyment of ‘Mortal Engines’ will highly depend on whether or not you’re willing to suspend your disbelief about cities on wheels grinding up other cities on wheels for fuel while fighting outlaws on airships.

Mortal Engines is a very silly movie. It’s also a movie that starts its (Mortal) engines right at the logos, as vivid purple explosions rock the Universal Logo (And all the rest are either burning or ashes).

2. I watch the film, telling myself this was one of the best movies of 2018, and then I come visit the ratings. Bumb! I really don't understand the reason how this movie is underrated and disliked so much. Even the box office is shocking.

3. I must say that Mortal Engines is visually stunning, but that's where it ends for me. The CGI is off the charts spectacular from a technical point of view, and the acting left a lot to be desired. I was on-board when I saw that Peter Jackson was involved because I love the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and the Hobbit films were entertaining. But Mortal Engines has that "been there, done that" feel.

Note: No spoilers are in this review. I have read all of the Hungry City series by Philip Reeves.

4. While I agree with a lot of the criticisms regarding pacing, some of the characters' designs and plot changes, I could not help but enjoy this movie. It does a good job of "show don't tell" (or at least that was my come away from a first viewing) and I loved seeing my favorite character of the series, Shrike, brought to life on screen. Shrike and Anna Fang had such an incredible presence onscreen. There are no spoilers in this review! TL;DR: Mortal Engines is an unappreciated and underrated fun movie that has compelling characters and an interesting world in which it's built upon. The critics are wrong. Go see the movie.
I'm really getting tired of film critics just eviscerating movies for one thing and then praising another when they did the same damn thing as the one they put down...
